I bet your bill is much higher. But I never use this phone, NEVER, but I have to have it to get DSL. Our good friend Tony P has no phone in his house because he has cable modem via COMCAST and you don't need a phone for that. At some point I'll hip him to VoIP but right now there's no need. The only drawback with cable is that it costs more... or does it? That $18.57 is before they tack on $6.00 for LONG DISTANCE which I never use either. Then they add tax to that and after a lot of fees and surcharges you end up with the princely sum of...$32.66 - so that they can send dsl into the bunker (and is billed separately). Now we got DSL when it was all new and exciting and as a result we pay way too much for it (to be resolved soon I assure you), so is like $39.99/mo instead of $26.99/mo if I signed up right now. Suddenly DSL is not cheaper. The State has told SBC that they have to offer "NAKED DSL" (which is what I was using it for anyway <wink>). Actually that's DSL service without requiring the subscriber to have a phone which may go unused (like mine). SBC ain't too happy about that and I don't blame 'em. They were pocketing 30 plus bucks a month for nothing. As soon as DSL gets "NAKED" I'll be dropping 'trou' with the rest of them. IDEA: Stop paying Tommy Lee Jones to voice over your TV spots and you'll probably save all the money you lose when all your DSL subscribers drop their phone lines. I am available for voice work, and I'm cheaper than calling Long Distance on a business day. toby Posted: Wed - June 16, 2004 at 12:58 AM @ toby |
